Over the past several years, Novartis has had the greatest number of new molecular entities approved by the FDA for clinical use in the US. Novartis is expanding its biologics capabilities to leverage its deep disease area expertise and innovative internal research, as well as to develop discoveries made at leading academic institutions and biotechnology companies. The Novartis Biologics Unit (NBx) is a dedicated biologics discovery and development organization created to accelerate the advancement of Novartis’ rich and rapidly expanding biologics pipeline.

The Process Sciences and Production (PSP) team of the Novartis Biologics Unit in Cambridge, MA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lab Head to establish and lead our Mammalian Cell Line Development efforts.

The Lab Head will build and manage a small team focused on the production of various therapeutic proteins using proprietary Novartis tools such as expression vectors and mammalian host cell lines and serum free defined media.

Significant experience with mammalian cell transfection and high throughput selection methods to identify and isolate cell clones expressing highest quantity and quality therapeutic proteins is definitely required. Cell line generation and therapeutic protein production efforts of Mammalian Cell Line Development Lab Head and team will be fully supported by our molecular biology, protein purification and analytical sciences colleagues in a highly matrixed, cross-functional, cooperative and entrepreneurial NBx unit environment.

The Lab Head is expected to perform and supervise hands-on laboratory work. A highly collaborative spirit and ability to work on multiple projects is desirable.

Successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, will be well organized and will thrive in a fast-paced, lean and dynamic organization.
