Please Note: Internships are UNPAID and structured to last approximately 12 weeks. Resume and cover letter are required for application. Please include days/hours of availability in your cover letter and a college reference contact at the end of your resume. Students should have a strong academic record and good character. Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. students must still be enrolled in school during the time of the internship). Students must be receiving course credit for DC internships. Note to International Students: All international students will be required to provide documentation of proper visa paperwork prior to arrival if accepted to the program. Only student visas J1 or F1 visas will be accepted. The deadline to apply for winter/spring internship is November, 18th 2009 and the internship program is slated to begin on January 13th, 2010.

Internship Description:
Four interns will be selected to work with CNN Washington’s Newsgathering and Live Production Departments: three weekday and one weekend position will be available.

Interns will learn how CNN plans stories and orchestrates live breaking news coverage and daily programming. Interns will shadow and assist coverage managers, assignment editors, producers, reporters and photojournalists. Intern duties include research, fact-checking, tapes logging, assistance with interviews and participation at press events. Interns should come away with sharper editorial and writing skills, exposure to leading technology and an increased knowledge of the U.S. government and political system.

Qualifications:
In order to facilitate the learning experience, the following qualifications are preferred:
1) Broadcast Journalism, Media or Communications major
2) Strong current events knowledge and interest in news and politics.
3) Knowledge of CNN news platforms (network shows, website) is helpful.
Candidates should also be motivated, detail-oriented multi-taskers who function well under deadline pressures.
