Job Responsibilities:

This is a Senior level staff position within the Freedom Region Network Engineering Department. The Network Engineering group has responsibility for the design and support of the Comcast Network infrastructure. The Sr. Transport Network Engineer will liaison with National/Division/Region and field engineers to design and implement optical network solutions in a multi-service architecture to support Comcast Converged Network and commercial services. Additionally, the Sr. Transport engineer will act as a lead technical resource to other departments and to personnel within the department. Converged network will support triple play of high speed data, voice and video to residential and commercial customers. Designs will support national standard requirements for network redundancy and fast re-convergence

Major Duties:
- Create detailed designs to support service delivery and service migration to regional DWDM and SONET transport networks
- Provision circuits over DWDM and SONET networks
- Maintain consistent records and documentation of all network designs and configuration data including wavelength utilization, circuit layout records, and route maps
- Analyze and report on transport facility utilization to facilitate augment planning and budgeting
- Interface with Region, Division, and National IP and Telephony teams developing network optimization and long term capacity plans.
- Develop test plans and perform lab evaluation, functionality, certification, and interoperability testing of hardware and software on new or existing platforms.
- Provide designs and costs for Sales proposals as needed for delivery of commercial services
- Assist the Division staff in defining operational and support requirements for new network transport technologies and products
- Function as network transport SME for Region Network Engineering team
- Provide leadership role within the network engineering department. Mentor entry- and mid-level engineers on technical issues and departmental functions.
- Analyze chronic network related problems. Perform root cause analysis. Recommend and implement solutions
- Carry a company provided wireless device 7x24 - off hours support is expected
- Limited travel may be required
- Other duties as assigned


Required Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. Substantial, applicable work experience may be accepted in lieu of advanced educational requirements
- Demonstrable Experience in current transport and service technologies including DWDM, SONET, Ethernet (Fast Ethernet, 1 Gigabit / 10 Gigabit / 40 Gigabit). ROADM technology such as Wavelength Selectable Switches (WSS) preferred
- Experience designing, provisioning and troubleshooting Nortel OME6500 and OM5200 DWDM and OM3500 SONET platforms.
- In depth knowledge of optical fiber types, optical loss budget calculations, chromatic dispersion compensation, polarization mode dispersion measurement, and fiber characterization testing.
- Working knowledge of Layer 2 / 3 switched and routed networks.
- Familiarity with SONET standards, network provisioning, grooming and surveillance
- Familiarity with infrastructure documentation tools such as Visio, MetaSolv or Cramer
- Working knowledge of Telcordia Common Language standards
- Proven analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience in a supervisory or lead technical role
- Ability to work in a team or individual contributor role
- Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
