Job Overview:
Provide Engineering Support to all sites in Freedom Region. This support consists of three main functions;
- New product & feature rollouts
- Regional VOD capacity (Server & Edge Qam)
- Operational Escalations
Functions/Responsibilities:
- New product & feature rollouts:
Facilitate the deployment of new products within the Freedom Region. Depending on scope of project, will entail;
Initial familiarization (meetings, training, lab visits, etc)
Close coordination & working relationship with Regional & National PMO (Project Mgrs)
Direct involvement with local headend staff to provide guidance
Escalation of bugs/issues, or deployment problems
Keep management apprised of daily status
- Tactical Support:
As technology & circumstances change, we are sometimes required to explore new configurations and work-arounds.
- Regional VOD Capacity (server & edge qam):
Participate in a team effort that performs utilization analysis, configuration analysis, mitigation plans, material planning & procurement, centralized staging & configuration, distribution of gear to sites, implementation planning, guidance, & support to headend personnel
- Operational Escalations:
Provide escalation support to Operations teams during critical outages. Collaborate with various functional groups/teams including Billing, Networking, HeadendOps, TechOps, & LMC
Required Skills:
Experience:
- SeaChange or Cisco VOD experience in a direct support role preferred
- 4+ years experience supporting servers & infrastructure directly within a production system in a mission-critical environment
- 4+ years MSO cable head-end experience working with RF and cable distribution systems.
- IT related background - expert level computer operation & support skills
- Intermediate Networking experience (WAN/LAN) (TCP/IP) (basic knowledge of Routing, switching)
Skills Required:
- Strong analytical skills for problem solving
- Experience with supporting NT, Windows 2003, Linux systems and Intel x86 hardware and production systems in a mission-critical 7x24 environment
- Must be able to work variable shift hours and rotate on-call duties
- Must be able to work in an entrepreneurial environment requiring broad experience, adaptability, quick learning and excellent problem solving skills
- Experience with Harmonic Narrowcast Services Gateway (NSG) devices
- Experience with Scientific Atlanta MQAM/GQAMS
- Familiar with RF and cable distribution systems
- Experience with video over IP systems
- Database experience with MSSQL or Oracle
Certificates/Licenses:
- CCNA, CCNE, MCSE. & Vendor specific certificates highly desirable
- Valid driver's license with clean driving records required
Job Training:
Training in the fields of Microsoft Server, Linux, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) / Internet Protocol (IP), video distribution systems, multicast, MPEG streams and IP routing desirable
The job may require :
- Stand in the up position for extended period of time and may also require some bending and kneeling
- Lifting of equipment in excess of 100 lbs
- Daily driving within Freedom Region footprint
- Possibility of working late or occasional over-night shifts during off-peak utilization hours.
